And if you can't read, it's going to be hard to realize dreams; it's going to be hard to go to college. "While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Sarah Palin and her bid to be a heartbeat away from being President. The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Palin is a post turtle.' Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a post turtle was. The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle. You know she didn't get up there by herself, she doesn't belong up there, she doesn't know what to do while she's up there, and you just have to wonder what kind of dumb ass put her up there to begin with.'"

Palin under investigation

without comments

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage
Democratic Senator Hollis French says he’s close to hiring someone to
investigate whether Governor Palin abused her power in firing former
Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

French says the hiring will be done within a week.

The Legislative Council backed him by approving $100,000 for the investigator.

The council is made up of 7 members of the House and Senate each.

The group wants to find out whether Palin dismissed Monegan for not
firing an Alaska State Trooper who went through a messy divorce with
Palin’s sister.

French serves as Senate Judiciary Committee chairman.

He says the investigation should be complete within a few months.

more:

JUNEAU — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says a
recently discovered conversation recording one of her staffers
pressuring the Department of Public Safety to fire a state trooper who
went through a bitter divorce with her sister will be turned over to a
legislative investigator.

Palin has been under heavy criticism since firing former Department of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

Monegan claims he felt pressured by Palin’s
family and administration to fire Trooper Mike Wooten, who divorced
Palin’s sister and has had ongoing child custody battles.

Palin Wednesday acknowledged a conversation
was recorded when Frank Bailey, her director of boards and commissions,
called a trooper station complaining about Wooten.

She says she never asked Bailey to make the
call, even though she says the recording may sound like Bailey was
acting on her behalf.

The legislature is investigating Monegan’s firing and whether Palin abused her power.

In

1984, Palin was second-place in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant after

winning the Miss Wasilla contest earlier that year, winning a

scholarship to help pay her way through college.[5] In the Wasilla

pageant, she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality. Oh, and

she’s McCain’s running mate.

Palin’s son is a PFC in a recruiter’s station.

without comments

Army records show that palin’s son, who is indeed in the Infantry is not slated for deployment, but is actually working in a Wasilla, Alaska recruiting station.
It is not common for a Private First Class to work in a recruiting
station and in fact you have to be at least a Specialist to be in the
Corporal recruiting program….. A little protectionist patronage?

Eight is Enough

without comments

Eight is Enough. three words that encapsulate, crystalize, and clarify everything important in this election cycle. This small, seemingly innocuous phrase will be, in my opinion, the very cornerstone in the most effective attack on McCain to date. No matter what else McCain tries to say, he is still of the party of the last eight. He still embodies the twisted ideals that have led us on this ruinous road, he is the mascot of the last eight, and as Barack said, Eight IS enough.
I;m sure that everyone expected Barack to let Biden be his attack dog, expected Barack to rely on sunny plattitudes, expected Barack to take the high, hands off road. And counter to that expectation by every single Pundit, Barack too McCain head on, and framed him for what he really is, the continuation of the same path. the same negative progress, the same failure and stagnation.
I’m sure that Barack wasn’t expected to take head on the impression of Celebrity, but yet and so, he did so. He framed his story, and made it the story of every person. Each aspect had a familiar struggle, not patronage, but work.
I’m sure that McCain’s camp did not expect Barack to attack headlong, the threat of dirty politics, but yet he did. And effectively so.

4 more years of the last 8 years.

without comments

I had serious doubts that Hillary could give a serious and helpful speech in Denver. I was sure that she would focus on herself, on her husband, on herself (again), but she pleasantly sirprised me with by far the best turn of phrase of the night. “Four more years of the last eight years”, remember that line, folks are gonna use it. She did an excellent job of passing her support, and supporters to Barack. I’m proud, I’m satisfied, I’m happy. Now as long as Bill shows up at Invesco Field for Barack’s speech, we’ll be cool.

McCain steps up to his G-Game

without comments

McCain told a crowd in Pennsylvania yesterday that he had called
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to express solidarity with the people of Georgia, saying:
“Today, we are all Georgians.”

Saakashvili said on CNN’s American Morning today,“Yesterday, I heard Sen. McCain say, ‘We are all Georgians now,’Well, very nice, you know,
very cheering for us to hear that, but OK, it’s time to pass from this.
From words to deeds.

John McCain’s top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, a former
lobbyist for the government of Georgia, told reporters that
McCain and Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili are friends that have
been speaking throughout the conflict “to exchange daily updates about
what’s going on.” and that McCain
and Saakashvili enjoyed a day of water sports in the summer of 2006.

“I can confirm that Sen. McCain and President Saakashvili were jet-skiing on the Black Sea together,” he said.

Asked about Barack Obama’s statements on the Georgia situation,
Scheunemann accused the Democrat of lacking experience on the matter,
saying his record consists only of a handful of paper statements, most
of which related to matters of loose nuclear material. But McCain’s
record on Georgia and Russia, he argued, runs deep. Geez. stepped in it a bit there didn’t he…

The Penn is mightier than right

without comments

per Mark Penn, former Clinton advisor and strategist:

“The Paris Hilton ad also bore a Republican political trademark — attacking a candidate’s strengths rather than the candidate’s weaknesses,” Penn wrote. The spot attempted to portray Obama’s leadership for change as something fluffy and useless. Obama did not immediately hit back on the air.”

I’m guessing that mark revrels in the dirt of politics and can’t comprehend that there might just possibly be a tiredness in AMerica of the negative campaigning. WHat he instaed proposes is that the very thing that makes Obama so compelling, his general civility on campaigning is a weakness. According to Penn, one should never speak of their own positions, just attack the other candidate in unclear, nonspecific ways that bear no relationship to reality.

According to Penn, diversity is a bad thing, American thinking means thinking in the same stilted politics of the past, and any diversion therefrom is wrong. Maybe Penn should work for the republicans, he’s right at home in their dirt pile.

Bush Government endorses Obama’s Tire Gauge Fuel Economy plan…

without comments

This directly from http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/maintain.shtml which is a DOE/ EPA joint project… Seems that a hoped-for 1% gain in production 10 years for now just might NOT be more effective than good maintenance. Smoke THAT Rush.

Keep Your Engine Properly Tuned

Vehicle engine diagramFixing
a car that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions
test can improve its gas mileage by an average of 4 percent, though
results vary based on the kind of repair and how well it is done.

Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor,
can improve your mileage by as much as 40 percent.

Fuel
Economy Benefit:
4%
Equivalent
Gasoline Savings:
$0.16/gallon
Check & Replace
Air Filters Regularly
Replacing a clogged air filter can improve your car’s gas mileage by as
much as 10 percent. Your car’s air filter keeps impurities from
damaging the inside of your engine. Not only will replacing a dirty air
filter save gas, it will protect your engine.
Fuel
Economy Benefit:
up to
10%
Equivalent
Gasoline Savings:
up to $0.40/gallon
Keep Tires Properly
Inflated
Sample tire pressure label You can improve
your gas mileage by around 3.3 percent by keeping your tires inflated
to the proper pressure. Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage
by 0.4 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires.
Properly inflated tires are safer and last longer.
Fuel Economy Benefit:
up to
3%
Equivalent Gasoline Savings:
up to $0.12/gallon
Use the Recommended
Grade of Motor Oil
API energy conservation labelYou
can improve your gas mileage by 1-2 percent by using the manufacturer’s
recommended grade of motor oil. For example, using 10W-30 motor oil in
an engine designed to use 5W-30 can lower your gas mileage by 1-2 percent.
Using 5W-30 in an engine designed for 5W-20 can lower your gas mileage
by 1-1.5 percent. Also, look for motor oil that says “Energy Conserving”
on the API performance symbol to be sure it contains friction-reducing
additives.
Fuel Economy Benefit:
1-2%
Equivalent Gasoline Savings:
$0.04-$0.08/gallon

Note:
Cost savings are based on an assumed fuel price of $3.96/gallon
.

Estimates for fuel savings from vehicle maintenance, keeping tires properly inflated, and using the recommended grade of motor oil are based on studies and literature reviews performed by Energy and Environmental Analysis, Inc., Washington, DC.

Air filter savings based on Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). 1981. Automobile Fuel Consumption in Actual Traffic Conditions. Paris, France. These tests were performed before the introduction of computer-controlled, fuel-injection engines. DOE is currently studying the fuel economy effects of clogged air filters on more modern engines.
