Eleanor Holmes Norton battles Colbert
Every now and then you find someone that Stephen Colbert can't simply run over One of those people, Eleanor Holmes Norton was on his show, The Colbert Report last night. I had forgotten just how tenacious a fighter she could be and I'm bettiing that the White House is praying to God right now with thanks that she does NOT have a vote. That is the closest I have seen anyone come to actually winning a roound agains Colbert.
The internet is a series of tubes..
Sen Ted Stevens gives an excellent description of the Internet.
putting the compassionate back in conservative.
Net Neutrality
I would urge the reminder that the failure to enact Net Neutrality legislation will, in addition to giving preference to big business, will relegate the small web sites, INCLUDING political sites, (That of the legislators) AND their personal/family sites) to the lower tier of service. That means that the illustrious senators and congressmen and aspiring presidents will all have web sites that are harder to access, with slower service than the big companies. For some reason, our lawmakers seem to forget the basis of the internet, that all people are equal on it. They believe that the maxim of Big Business, where more money makes more equal, should also hold true on the internet. Sliding down this slope, I as a small web site owner, who has a personal web site, would either have to pay fortune 500 prices for my family members to see the image galleries, or accept that my traffic and my web site is less important than someone with more money. If the legislators refuse to enact Net Neutrality, please make sure that they do NOT try to create exempt classes for their own interests.
By the rockets red glare
It’s comforting to know that North Korea feels the need to test our rec. It’s nice to know that Iran doesn’t really take us as seriously as we take ourselves. It’s good to know that since we’re in at least one quagmire, we have the potential good fortune of being in two more conflicts. Comforting and nice that is, for the Defense Industry. Us mere mortals could use a stronger economy and more manageable fuel costs. we would be happier with more attention paid to domestic issues. or at least an actual guiding intelligence in our military methods. I’m pretty sure you’re not listening to this Pres. Bush, but if you were, I would recommend begging Colin Powell to come back and letting him fully manage your military affairs. Don’t try to second-guess hime, don’t let Cheney or Rove try to "Guide" him, Just let him do what he is best at and fix both our current situation and the ones sitting on the horizon.
